WCHS Demonstration to Help Teens Arrive Safe & Alive

Worth County High School is committed to helping teen drivers stay safe and alive!  In conjunction with Celebrate My Drive, a national program dedicated to keeping teen drivers safe and alive, Worth County High School held a First Responders Presentation on October 23, 2014 for the students presented by local government agencies.

The three-car crash reenactment involving two fatalities and injuries started around 8:45 AM that morning with two emergency transport helicopters also participating.

A car was donated by Futrill Auto Parts of Poulan in which the students took turns pounding it with a sledgehammer for a week.  As students witnessed the first responders in action, they were able to compare their "sledgehammer" car to an actual car from an accident to demonstrate the impact of car crashes.

WCPS Outdoor Classroom Receives Kiwanis Grant

A grant sponsored by the Georgia Kiwanis Foundation and matched by the Sylvester Kiwanis Club awarded to the Worth County Primary School's Outdoor Classroom has been completed. The $3000 grant was spearheaded by Ridley Monk of the local club and Tommy Gay of the Georgia Kiwanis Foundation.

Permanent galvanized lawn edging was installed around the Musical Playscape, Butterfly Garden, and gazebo. Additionally, students removed the old wood edging from the For the Birds garden, filled in the holes with topsoil, and installed decorative edging around the bird area and the gazebo. Statuary and student-sized tools and gloves were also purchased with the grant monies.

A surprise matching donation of $3000 from an anonymous Kiwanis Club member allowed the school to purchase eight high-quality 32 gallon trash receptacles that were placed around the school.

This project continues the Sylvester Kiwanis' history of support to the WCPS Outdoor Classroom and furthers the goals and ideals of Kiwanis – service to children.
