On September 12th, a crowd of 225 Class of 2023 Seniors and their parents attended the 1st Annual Senior Parent Information Night, held at WCHS.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform parents of all the unique and special things that happen in a student's 12th-grade year that may affect them.
Topics that were discussed included: Important Dates, Senior Expenses, Apply to College, Ordering Cap & Gown, Yearbook/Senior Ad Pages, Senior Portraits, SAT/ACT Testing, FAFSA, Hope & Zell Scholarships, Work-Based Learning Opportunities.
Afterward, the students and parents were able to meet with nearby college representatives & military branch representatives to explore educational options after high school.
Colleges included: ABAC (Tifton), Albany Technical College (Albany), Georgia Southwestern State University (Americus), Georgia College & State University (Milledgeville), and Southern Regional Technical College (Tifton). The military branches included the Army & National Guard.
Mrs. Amy Cummings, the Graduation Specialist at WCHS, who headed up the night, said, “A student's senior year is very special and includes lots of different activities and some responsibilities/obligations. We want to make certain the Class of 2023 Seniors and their parents are prepared for the upcoming year. This way, they can worry less and enjoy it more!”
Cummings added, “We also wanted to give the Seniors and their parents the opportunity to see what the surrounding colleges/military had to offer them.”
