Georgia Department of Public Health Georgia Department of Public Health Letter: Influenza in Schools

It is currently influenza (‘flu”) season and Georgia and the United States are experiencing very high influenza activity. Influenza can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. To ensure the safety and health of students, parents, and faculty, the Georgia Department of Public Health encourages schools to know the signs and symptoms of influenza and the necessary steps to reduce the spread of illness.

worth mini cheer camp Mini Cheer Camp for Grades K-8th

Worth County Middle School Spirit Cheerleaders to host a Mini Cheer Camp for students in grades K-8th. The camp will be held March 10, 2018, from 9am until 3pm at the WCMS gymnasium.  Sign-up by March 2nd to receive a t-shirt.

WCPS Make & Take Workshop for Parents WCPS Make & Take Workshop for Parents Held January 25th

A Make & Take Workshop for parents was presented by Tonya Singletary, WCPS Parent & Family Engagement Coordinator on January 25th.  Parents met in the WCPS Resource Center where they were provided with supplies and instructions to make fun, easy, inexpensive learning folder activities to use at home with their children.  Parents enjoyed the hands-on event and making connections with other parents.

Read Across America Day is celebrated annually on March 2nd.  Georgia's First Lady, Sandra Deal proclaims March as "Read Across Georgia" month.  Read Across Georgia Month Kick-Off is scheduled for March 5, 2018, at the Georgia State Capitol.  Gov. Nathan Deal, first lady Sandra Deal, and other special guests will celebrate Get Georgia Reading Day and kick off Read Across Georgia Month, which supports the shared expectation that all children in Georgia will be on a pathway to third-grade reading proficiency by 2020.

2017 Worth County Schools CCRPI Worth County Schools Excel on CCRPI

The 2017 College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) was recently released by the Georgia Department of Education and Worth County Schools showed they are among the best in Southwest Georgia.

 

Notice Notice of Procedure Change: Access to Video Surveillance Evidence

Effective immediately, Worth County Schools will only allow access to video surveillance evidence to school principals and district-level administrators to resolve discipline issues or other behavior issues occurring in our school and on our school buses.

Veterans Day is a time to celebrate soldiers who have served in the armed forces at any time, during peace or war. Worth County School District is especially grateful for the brave men and women who have served in the US Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and the Coast Guard that are currently on staff.

 

Pie WCPS Wild West Fall Festival

The WCPS PTO Wild West Fall Festival was held Thursday, November 16, 2017, from 5:30 until 7:30 at Worth County Primary School. 

Terrific Kids November WCPS and Kiwanis Announce Terrific Kids

Worth County Primary School recognized the following 2nd grade students for being selected as Terrific Kids for their class.  The Terrific Kids program is sponsored by our local Kiwanis Club of Sylvester.  Terrific Kids is a student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. “TERRIFIC” is an acronym for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable.

Hatcher WCPS Pumpkin Fun

Ms. Hatcher's class learned about pumpkins this week. They got to explore the inside and outside of a pumpkin. They also got to try pumpkin pudding.

Transportation Day WCPS Transportation Day 2017

Pre-K and Kindergarten students enjoyed Transportation Day at WCPS Friday, 10/13. Each class visited stations with different kinds transportation (ambulance, bucket truck, fire truck, bus, truck, car, boat, etc). Students learned about the importance of transportation and how people depend on it to get to their jobs. They also learned that some kinds of transportation are required to complete jobs in our community.  All students at WCPS also had the opportunity to see the Life Flight helicopter land.

October 9 - 13, 2017 is National School Lunch Week (NSLW).  The #NSLW17 theme is "School Lunch:  Recipes for Success."
